If you choose order, it won't just mean that civilians fawn over you as you jog around between missions it will make Nix an antagonist. The choice will have far-reaching consequences. Before you're prompted to choose, each character will make their case, tempting you to be a hero of order or chaos. After a short cutscene, Cole was presented with a power choice between Nix or Kuo - oil or ice. There are a number of Blast Cores throughout the world, and each contains a new super power for Cole to learn. Halfway through the level, Nix took the place of Kuo and, once all the bad guys were depleted, the group found a Blast Core.
You'll then have to travel to the second generator and clear out the enemies. You power the generators by siphoning a big bolt of energy form the first, then flying it through the level like a guided missile until it hits the second. No more sewer platforming sections required to turn on the lights. There were two other generators in the map and Cole needed to take power from the first and connect to the second, third, and fourth in order to restore power to the area. Order or chaos? After clearing out enemies in the fort's first area, Cole came on a caged in power generator.
Cole will also have a new melee weapon, a sort of electrified baton, to give players more of a choice about how to engage in combat. I saw a lot of toughs with bazookas and a number of lumbering heavies that looked almost like mini-bosses. Because Cole will start out with more powers, enemies have been made more powerful as well.
You'll also have access to the powerful vortex attack that was unlocked near the end of the original, though here it'll only be available when special purple clouds are overhead, a measure to help preserve the game balance. Because the original game explained Cole's origin story, the sequel will start you off with most of his powers from the first game. One handy move has Nix calling up a blob of crude oil beneath an enemy to trap them in place while Cole blasts them.
In the first half of the mission, Nix fights alongside Cole, and it's possible to combine her oil-based powers with his electricity bolts in combat. The mission is traditional you'll be running into a big courtyard to fight dozens of enemies while trying to restore power to the area. Cole is set to invade the hideout of a local group of vigilantes. At the demo I saw a new mission called "Storm the Fort," about one-third of the way through the story. In the early parts of the game, both heroes will travel with Cole as he tries to learn more about how he got his powers and what can be done to defeat The Beast. Chaos is Nix, an impetuous lady in red who can use oil-based attacks to start fires. Representing order is Kuo, a lithe superhero with the ice-based powers. In Infamous 2, good and evil have been swapped for order and chaos.
